Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering 2021, Volume 8, Issue 2,

Abstract:

D1 protein turnover and the xanthophyll cycle (XC) are important photoprotective mechanisms in plantsstreptomycin sulfate (SM) and dithiothreitol (DTT) were used in tomato plants as inhibitors of D1 protein turnoverOverall, inhibition of D1 turnover caused greater photoinhibition than XC inhibition. These findings support the view that D1 turnover has a more important role than XC in photoprotection

Turnover mechanisms of organic conformation on turbidity in drinking water

ZHONG Runsheng, ZHU Chunwei, ZHANG Xihui, GUAN Yuntao

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2007, Volume 1, Issue 3,   Pages 276-279 doi: 10.1007/s11783-007-0046-9

Abstract: The turbidity variation in artificial water and samples from a water plant was investigated in the presence of organics with different relative molecular mass. The results show that recessive turbidity existed when water chemical conditions were changing. The formation of turbidity depended on organic relative molecular mass and their conformations on particles. At higher pH and lower ionic strength, the organic chains with a more extended conformation resulted in rising turbidity of the suspension. At lower pH, the reconformation of organics took place due to charge neutralization by the proton, resulting in a decline in turbidity. The addition of NaCl and MgCl at pH 7.00 also resulted in a decrease of turbidity in the suspension. It is believed that the occurrence of recessive turbidity has a significant influence on the stability of water supply quality.

Turnover and loss of nitrogenous compounds during composting of food wastes

YANG Yanmei, ZHANG Xiangfeng, YANG Zhifeng, XI Beidou, LIU Hongliang

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2008, Volume 2, Issue 2,   Pages 251-256 doi: 10.1007/s11783-008-0042-8

Abstract: Few people have so far explored into the research of the dynamics of various nitrogenous compounds (including water-soluble nitrogen) in composting of food wastes. This study aimed to investigate the solid-phase nitrogen, water-soluble nitrogen, nitrogen loss together with ammonia volatilization in the process of food wastes composting. A laboratory scale static aerobic reactor in the experiment was employed in the composting process of a synthetic food waste, in which sawdust was used as the litter amendment. In the experiment, oxygen was supplied by continuous forced ventilation for 15 days. The results have shown that the concentrations of total nitrogen and organic nitrogen decrease significantly in the composting process, whereas NH-N concentration increases together with little fluctuation in NO-N. After composting, the total content of the water-soluble nitrogen compounds in the compost greatly increased, the total nitrogen loss amounted to 50% of the initial nitrogen, mainly attributed to ammonia volatilization. 56.7% of the total ammonia volatilization occurred in the middle and late composting of the thermophilic stage. This suggested that the control at the middle and late composting of thermophilic stage is the key to nitrogen loss in the food waste compost.

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering doi: 10.1007/s11709-023-0006-x

Abstract: A frequency error estimation is presented for the isogeometric free vibration analysis of Kirchhoff–LoveBy analyzing the discrete isogeometric equations with the aid of harmonic wave assumption, the frequencyIn particular, the governing relationship of the continuum frequency for Kirchhoff–Love cylindrical shellsis naturally embedded into the frequency error measures without the need of explicit frequency expressionsNumerical results not only thoroughly verify the theoretical convergence rates of frequency solutions

Potential unreliability of ALK variant allele frequency in the efficacy prediction of targeted therapy

Frontiers of Medicine 2023, Volume 17, Issue 3,   Pages 493-502 doi: 10.1007/s11684-022-0946-x

Abstract: Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) is the most common fusion gene involved in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and remarkable response has been achieved with the use of ALK tyrosine kinase inhibitors (ALK-TKIs). However, the clinical efficacy is highly variable. Pre-existing intratumoral heterogeneity (ITH) has been proven to contribute to the poor treatment response and the resistance to targeted therapies. In this work, we investigated whether the variant allele frequencies (VAFs) of ALK fusions can help assess ITH and predict targeted therapy efficacy. Through the application of next-generation sequencing (NGS), 7.2% (326/4548) of patients were detected to be ALK positive. On the basis of the adjusted VAF (adjVAF, VAF normalization for tumor purity) of four different threshold values (adjVAF < 50%, 40%, 30%, or 20%), the association of ALK subclonality with crizotinib efficacy was assessed. Nonetheless, no statistical association was observed between median progression-free survival (PFS) and ALK subclonality assessed by adjVAF, and a poor correlation of adjVAF with PFS was found among the 85 patients who received first-line crizotinib. Results suggest that the ALK VAF determined by hybrid capture-based NGS is probably unreliable for ITH assessment and targeted therapy efficacy prediction in NSCLC.
